There are various categories for the sponsor and family migration stream.
Partner Visas
Partners of Australian citizens, Australian permanent residents or eligible New Zealand citizens may apply to enter and/or remain permanently in Australia. Partners include:
people intending to get married
married (de jure) partners
de facto partners
interdependent partners (including those in a same sex relationship)
If you qualify for one of these visa's, there is a 2 year wait before the granting of the Permanent visa. In all of these applications, it is important to establish that the relationship is genuine. De-facto and same sex couples may establish the genuineness of their relationship following 12 months of cohabitation.
Parent Visas
To qualify for this visa, parent's must have half of their children residing permanently in Australia, or more in Australia than in any other country.
There is normally a waiting period of at least five years for the issue of this class of visa and the number of visa's issued is usually very limited.
The visa's which maybe applied for are as follows:
In Australia;
Aged parent visas
These visas are for parents whose age is equivalent to a person who is eligible for an Australian Age pension which is 65 for a male and 62 for a female.
An aged parent making a parent visa application will not immediately be entitled to an Age pension after being granted a permanent visa. All new Australian permanent residents must wait 10 years before being eligible to receive the Age pension (unless there is a reciprocal agreement with another country that pays you a pension) or Disability pension.
Outside Australia;
Parent (Permanent) Visa
A permanent visa for parents who have children living in Australia.
Contributory Parent (Migrant) Visa
A permanent visa for parents with children living in Australia. This visa costs more than the Parent visa but is generally processed faster.
Contributory Parent (Temporary) Visa
This is a temporary visa valid for two years. If you hold this visa you can then apply for the permanent Contributory Parent visa.
Contributory Parent (Migrant) Visa
This visa is for holders of a temporary Contributory Parent visa, who want to apply for a permanent Contributory Parent visa.
Children Visas
The status of children as dependent on their parents generally depends on the age of the child and the mental state of the child. Disabled children maybe considered dependent up to the age of 24. Generally, children under the age of 18 are considered dependent on their parents.
A number of visa's exist for children wishing to migrate to Australia. Applications maybe made from in Australia or outside Australia. Visa's applied for outside Australia include permanent visa's, adoption visa's, orphan relative visa's and dependent child visa's. Inside Australia, permanent visa's, orphan relative and dependent child visa's maybe applied for.
It will be important to inform us of your personal circumstances for your child so that we may advise you of the most appropriate visa to apply for.
Other Family Visa's
A number of other family visa options are available depending on your personal circumstances. These maybe applied for in Australia or outsdie Ausstralia. These include last remaining relatives, aged-dependent relatives and a carers visa for those who are required to assist disabled or ill Australian residents.
