If you are a skilled worker with a recognised qualification and skill in a particular occupation required in Australia, you may be sponsored by an employer in Australia. Likewise, if your an employer, you may sponsor a worker.
To qualify, the following must be established:
- The business which is sponsoring is a lawfully operated business;
- A legitimate employer/employee relationship;
- Benefits accruing to Australia through your employment;
- Advancement skills of the business;
- Your employer's ability to meet sponsorship undertakings.
Sponsorship maybe on a temporary or permanent basis, the following options are available to you:
Temporary Visa Options
Temporary Business Long Stay – Standard Business Sponsorship
A program for employers to sponsor approved skilled workers to work in Australia on a temporary visa. Employers can nominate a number of positions for different occupations under the same sponsorship application.
Service Sellers
For representatives of overseas suppliers of services who are negotiating, or entering into, agreements to supply their services in Australia under the General Agreement on Trade and Services (GATS).
Medical Practitioner visa
Doctors should generally apply for a Temporary Business (Long Stay) visa which is an alternative for doctors registered to work in Australia.
Educational visa
For educational workers to be employed in Australia on a temporary basis. The sponsoring organisation must be an Australian tertiary education or research institution, school or technical college.
Skilled Workers Permanent Visa Options
Employer Nomination Scheme
For lawfully operating Australian employers to recruit workers on permanent visas, to fill full-time highly skilled positions which cannot be filled from the Australian labour market.
Regional Sponsored Migration Scheme
For employers in regional Australia to employ skilled people in positions unable to be filled from the local labour market.
